BEAT THE HEAT IN GIG HARBOR

It's a well circulated joke that summer in the Pacific Northwest really doesn't begin until July 5th. With the June gloom we've been having lately in Gig Harbor and the South Puget Sound, it sure has seemed like that rule will hold fast this year. But nay, the weatherman has now announced that Mother Nature will be playing a trick on us this weekend, with temps headed into the 70s today and hanging out at 85-90 degrees throughout the weekend. Considering yesterday’s high was 65, it may be wise to plan out a few places to hang to beat the heat, though I know we Washingtonians will be not-so-quietly rejoicing to see the sun, even as sweat drips into our eyes.

My favorite local watering holes and waterfront spots:

Patio drinks and/or dining:
Islandview Market  - An excellent local seaside public house and market featuring local products including beef, flowers, and hand crafted items. Accessible by car and boat. 21+ for beer & wine space. On the smaller side, so prepare to make local friends!

Zogs on Fox Island - A favorite local hangout with beautifully landscaped outdoor space complete with water feature, bar food menu, beer and wine. Some spaces may be 21+

Tides Tavern - A classic Gig Harbor restaurant and bar. 21+ only, so plan accordingly. Wonderful deck, food and drink selection. Also accessible by boat. You may have to wait for a table during peak hours, but it’s worth it!

The Boat Shed in Bremerton - One of the largest and best restaurant decks I've ever seen. A little trip out of Gig Harbor to Bremerton however, views of the Manette Bridge and beautiful water between Dyes and Sinclair Inlets are worth the drive! Full dining menu and bar. Kid friendly!

Parks:
Kopachuck State Park - A stunning waterfront with views of Cutts Island and the Olympic Mountains. Picnic tables and plenty of beach space on a low tide. Great place to cool off with kids

Narrows Park - If you want commanding views of the Narrows Bridge and a great place to walk the beach, this is a lovely spot. Also gets shaded later in the day, so can help you beat the heat as the temperatures rise! Kid and pet friendly

Bella Bella Beach - A little sanctuary on the northeast tip of Fox Island. Beautiful views and beach. Smaller space and can be popular. Views make it worth the potential company though.
